Sampling Information for a Public Water System

Bacteriological sampling requirements vary depending on number of months in operation.  Owners and operators of seasonal facilities (outfitters/camps) may contact their district public health inspector for information on sampling requirements.  Owners and operators of year-round public water supplies are required to submit sample quarterly (once every three months).

Public Health Inspectors sample public water supplies annually.

Water sample bottles are available at the Population Health Unit or an accredited laboratory of your choice.  To ensure accurate results, samples for bateriological analysis must be processed withing 48 hours. Samples transported overnight must be shipped in a cooler with an ice pack, however, the sample must not freeze during transport.
